From the 2018 Assembly At our 2018 Deaconess Community Assembly, we asked the Mission Support Committee to distribute any money remaining in the New Ministry Initiatives by Deaconesses as of November 1, 2018, through mission grants.
Three new grants On November 1, 2018, $13,000 remained after providing two grants in 2018 for New Ministry Initiatives by Deaconesses. With Board approval, the Mission Support Committee distributed three grants out of the $13,000.

  • Augusta Victoria Hospital on the West Bank in Jerusalem as they navigate the United States cut in funding
  • Beloved Community Incubator in Washington, D. C., a ministry of Luther Place Memorial Church.
  • Sion Lutheran Church, Puerto Rico for ongoing hurricane relief in their community.

Beloved Community Incubator  Beloved Community Incubator supports worker-owned cooperatives and social enterprises with a vision for racial and economic equity. As Beloved Community Incubator works to create quality jobs, community wealth, and real change for marginalized workers, their director, Bianca Vasquez, shared her thanks with our Community after receiving the grant. “The Deaconess Community is such an amazing example of financial sustainability and true accompaniment. I’m so grateful for the ways our partnership will grow.”
