Jan Rizzo is a life-long Lutheran. She studied to be a nurse before transitioning to communications. After a few years as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, Jan transitioned to the nonprofit world where she has spent the rest of her career. She comes to the Community with over 13 years of experience for both the national and local church.
Jan’s work at the Deaconess Community
Jan ensures that the visitors and callers to Deaconess Community office, are welcomed and feel the radical hospitality that is one of the Deaconess Community’s values.
She also makes sure that the office works efficiently and, as part of the communications team, she works connecting the Deaconess Community and its members (called sisters) with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the broader church, and the world.
Reading in Elmwood Park
Jan is an avid reader, who challenges herself to read 100 books a year. She lives in Elmwood Park, with her husband John and their cat, Lucy.
