Using a bridge our Community built with one of our 2017 Mission Grant Recipients, Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in South St. Paul, Minnesota, we partnered with the South St. Paul School District to reduce the past due balances of their students’ lunch accounts.

Dr. Dave Webb, Superintendent of the District, joined with us during our Assembly to share the needs in their district.

With the offering gathered during our Assembly, $1,410.00 we knew we would lower the past due lunch balances and provide relief for children and their families who are suffering from food insecurity.

Learning the stories and knowing the South St. Paul School District receives the lowest funding through local property taxes and serves the highest level of families in poverty in their county, the Assembly reflected on our own abundance and passed the following motion:

DA17.03.06 M/S/A that the Deaconess Community match the offering given by the 2018 Deaconess Assembly for the South St. Paul School District Lunch Account and, if necessary, complete the financial gift so that all the past due balances of the South St. Paul School District Lunch Account is zero.

With a generous offering and this Assembly action, the South St. Paul School District past due lunch accounts will be paid in full.

Giving thanks for our abundance and the opportunities that grow out of partnerships with God’s people.
