Sister Marianne B. Brock was consecrated as a Deaconess in the ELCA during the June 5th Sunday morning closing worship service of the Lower Susquehanna Synod (Pennsylvania) Annual Assembly at Messiah College, Grantham, PA, with Bishop James S. Dunlop, presiding. Sister Krista Anderson represented the Deaconess Community, presenting Sister Marianne to the assembly and pinning on the Deaconess cross. Her sponsors were the Rev. Clifton D. Eshbach and Sister Deborah A.S. McClellan, who presented a basin to her especially for camp use; her husband, the Rev. John H. Brock, and Rev. Nancy R. Easton joined in the laying on of hands.
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, PA, where her husband is a pastor, Sister Marianne is called by the Lower Susquehanna Synod Council to serve as Associate Director of the Lutheran Camping Corporation and Director of Camp Nawakwa, where she has served the synod since 2000.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA, and her Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. Sister Marianne and Pastor John have two sons, Benjamin and Evan, and two dogs, Hilde and Norbert.
Sr. Marianne’s consecration verse is 1 Corinthians 12:4-7: There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
