Deaconess Community Appoints Sister Krista Anderson Director of Vocation and Education
The board of directors of the Deaconess Community, ELCA, has selected Sister Krista Anderson as its new Director of Vocation and Education (DoVE). The appointment was made at the board of directors meeting held in November 2012 in Chicago. In this position, Sister Krista will be responsible for the Deaconess Community’s candidacy process and for continuing education for both candidates and deaconesses.
Sister Krista is originally from Burnsville, Minnesota. In 1999, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a degree in Comparative World Religions. She served as a youth minister during college, and continued to serve as a Child, Youth and Family Minister in North Branch, MN, in the years that followed. While spending a year in Thailand teaching English and working with the Health Project for Tribal People, as part of the Young Adult in Global Mission Program, she discerned God’s call to the Deaconess Community and rostered ministry in the ELCA.
In 2007, Sister Krista earned a Master of Arts degree in Mission and World Christianity from Luther Seminary in St Paul, MN. In August, 2008, she was consecrated and called to serve with the World Mission Prayer League as a missionary in Mexico. After returning to the United States in 2010, she was called to serve as the Mission Developer of Living Grace Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN where she served until accepting the call to serve as DoVE.
Sister Krista is married to Justin Anderson. They served together as missionaries both in Thailand and in Mexico, where they helped congregations with mission and leadership development. They have one son, Justus, and a snuggly Chihuahua, Nena.
